Children’s Party Theme Ideas

Whether very young or entering their teen years, children love a good party . Many kids’ events are held to celebrate a birthday. But they could also be in aid of a graduation into junior or high school, a sporting achievement, religious confirmation, and so on.

Here are some party theme ideas for children under the age of 13 years:

Boys

  • Avatar – what could be better for a boy than painting yourself blue and pretending to live a century in the future?
  • Batman – this popular hero continues to intrigue young and old alike. The costumes and décor will also be relatively easy to find.
  • Ben 10 – the boy that can turn into different kinds of aliens is every lad’s hero.
  • Cars – let Strip Weathers, Chick Hicks, and Lightning McQueen rev your boys’ party up.
  • Cowboy – guns and leather fascinate men from their early years. Include a bronco bull if the boys are a bit older, or pony rides for younger children.
  • Sesame Street – invite Elmo and the Cookie Monster to entertain young children for a rip-roaring time. Alternatively, get the children to dress as the Sesame Street characters themselves.
  • Sports stars – if you have a large venue, use it to entertain the kids with soccer, rugby and cricket equipment. Encourage them to dress as their favourite sports stars.
  • Spiderman – there’s something about those web-yielding wrists that drives little guys crazy. Choose a red and blue theme and let your boys go wild.
  • Secret spy – gadgets and gizmos are the order of the day for a spy-themed party. Throw in hidden clues and treasure hunts and you’ve got yourself a winner.
  • X-Men – an X-Men party gives the boys a chance to choose whatever superpower they wish they had and dress accordingly. Encourage them to be imaginative.

Girls

  • Idols – so many little (and not so little) girls dream of belting out love songs while strutting their stuff on stage. Set your venue up to resemble an Idols stage, complete with judges and invite your guests to sing their hearts out. Bear in mind that ALL feedback must be positive.
  • Crafty arts – for something different, invite your youngster’s girl friends to a craft party, where they will be able to bead, scrapbook, make cards, and so on. This is sure to keep them occupied for hours.
  • Bratz – Cloe, Jade, Sasha and Yasmin are all about being sassy, trendy teens and young girls just can’t resist them. Make plenty of make-up and jewellery available.
  • Dora the Explorer – this tenacious adventurer makes for the perfect girls’ party theme.
  • Hello Kitty – a Hello Kitty theme is great for young children as well as pre-teen girls, as there are so many items of clothing and accessories to suit the theme.
  • Fairy garden – whether they want to be a fairy, a bug or a flower, there is so much inspiration to be found in a fairy garden theme.
  • Hannah Montana – with this theme, you will be assured of plenty of music to play and willing sing-along contestants.
